Happy Spring! (Can't believe I'm saying that already!) Spring has a lovely way of reminding us of the joys of new beginnings and fresh starts. It is during the spring season that the blooming flowers offer us a reminder of the benefits of planting and watering seeds to reap harvests in our lives.

This post is all about Descanso Gardens and if it's worth your time and money.

My seasonal allergies will certainly disagree, but I love to see all the beautiful flowers blooming during this time of year. Lately, I have been making intentional efforts to experience outdoor activities and landmarks that Los Angeles has to offer.

Yesterday, I went to visit Descanso Gardens, which is a botanical garden located about 15 minutes North of Downtown Los Angeles in La Cañada Flintridge, CA. The garden holds collections that include California native plants and oak woodlands, camellias, a rose garden and significant presentations of lilacs, maple trees, cherry trees and iris.

If you do not hold a membership, you must purchase an advance ticket online- you can not purchase a ticket in person. One adult ticket is $15 while tickets for seniors, children 5-12yrs. and students with ID are $11. a childs ticket is $11.

Children 4yrs and younger can be admitted for free.

We walked the whole park for about an hour and here are some of the beautiful pictures that I took along the way.

If you miss seeing pine trees and greenery out here in LA, Descanso Gardens is filled with incredibly tall oak trees that are stunning.

Japanese Garden and all its glory

The lilacs were absolutely beautiful! There were a number of different colors, light pink, lilac, deep purple, and they each had a different distinct scent. I noticed the lighter ones had a stronger powder scent.

Surprisingly, the roses were not in bloom, but I found a couple, literally 2 lol, and here is one beauty that was still alive and well.

Is Descanso Gardens Worth the Visit?

Pros:

Aesthetically pleasing
Close to DTLA/Central LA
Can walk the whole garden in one visit

Cons:

All flowers not in bloom
Not the easiest to navigate
Tickets are pricey for large groups

Conclusion:

I enjoyed my visit to Descanso Gardens. I do wish we were able to see more flowers in bloom, specifically roses and cherry blossoms, so I suggest visiting in March, not mid April. I also think the admission fee could be lower than the current ask of $15/person. Other than that, the experience was nice and a great way to enjoy nature with close friends and family.
